newbie, please help

i am all new to the midi world so anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated. i am in a band and we are trying to find a way to accomplish things at a live show that we have previously only been able to do in recording. i am trying to figure out an easy way to trigger samples (like sound effects, movie clips, digitally created music clips) suring our set. asking around to friends and such i have been led to midi. i baught a basic midi keyboard that all i need to do is set up for just launching the clips. i would like to havedifferent keys controlling different sounds. anybody got any tips on sofware to use or how i should set this whole thing up?
