Hi Brendan,
you can dump progs and mixes from your QS to the sequencer in different ways.
Every sysex-download contains information as to where the contained prog/mix is to be restored during download. Usually, this is the location where the program was dumped before, but you can choose it as you like.
It's also important to know that the QS has several 'temporary' programs that are used as edit buffers.
You can direct a sysex dump to one of these buffers. This seems like a useful and intelligent approach because you can store the prog/mix/effects information in the sequence and it will NOT alter any of your QS's 'permanent' settings during playback. You are independent of the presence of any special user-programs.

You will find the command by pressing STORE. Then find 'dump program' and set it to 'dump program # xx to TEMP (TEMP1..16 for MIX mode). When you play back this sysex-dump, the program will be transfered to the temporary buffer.
