midi data over RC jack to headphone

I have yet to pick up a midi cable to connect from joystick or USB port, but I have this y cable of RC Jack to headphone from a Cue Cat (remember those? barcode reader) and I was wondering if it's possible to get any midi data into suite's like Sound Forge or Pro Edit from this type of connection. I'm still new to the process of midi to PC connections and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of some different ways to connect the two other than just through midi ports...
