sound card??

I have been downloading midi files off the net. When I play them they sound really cheesy (like they are being played on a Radio Shack keyboard). My sound card is a bottom-of-the-line Sound Blaster. If I were to get a good sound card would the instrument voices be better? That is my assumption, but I wanted to check it out before I go out and spend the money. Thanks!
