: What the heck is the difference between the S/W Synth and A/B synths??? And what is this MPU_401 device that's listed?

Synth A and B are the ones to use as they're the soundfont capable synths (the S/W synth is rubbish but lets Creative claim you can have 1024 MIDI voices - yes you can, so long as you don't mind most of them being useless). Run SoundFont from AudioHQ and you'll probably find that both A and B synths have a 4Mb GM synth loaded as default - you can do much better than this by exploring sites such as HammerSound (www.hammersound.net). Between them A and B give you 32 channels of quite high-quality MIDI output.

MPU_401, I should imagine, is the name of the E-mu chip that powers the Audigy. (I expect MPU = Music Processing Unit or some such post-Nvidia showing-off!) Can't double check as I'm at work on a non-musical PC.
