unable to record midi in protools

hope someone can help!
i have mbox/motu fastlane usb/korg triton. i cannot record midi directly into protools, i am only able to import midi files and hear them back with the triton. it is clear that they are communicating... however, recording directly into protools doesn't work.
Any ideas on what the problem could be????
