need gear suggestions

I'm a trumpeter who also plays piano. I'm looking to buy a keyboard to play basic piano, organ, string, and some standard synth sounds.
I want to keep things simple to set up and easy to lug to gigs. So, I'm thinking of getting a 37 key midi controler and a midi module that I can rack mount with my PA gear. Not worried about weighted keys.
Any suggestions on gear with good sounds that I could get used pretty cheap? (i.e. $400 or less)
