: hi everybody, hi Jeremy... i have a problem. in some soundfonts while playing in vienna or any other software, when i play many notes simultaneously (chords or so), i hear a very loud noise, like if the card is short of polyphony. plz help.
: my config is FIC mobbo with a via chipset, athlon 900, 256 SDRAM, 40GB western digital hdd (portege) + 45GB western digital (caviar) + Gigabyte geforce 2mx-400, SB Audigy DE, Motorola 56k modem.

This is a bit of a problem with the Audigy, especially under the newer OS's (Win2K, WinXP)
and I can't confidently offer a perfect fix. Creative have been rather slow with driver updates, partly because they've been working on a new basic driver architecture, but I'm in hopes we'll see some development soon, so keep an eye on http://www.soundblaster.com/drivers/

For the present, I find the driver set that minimizes my problems with soundfonts is the update dated 1/11/2001, available from that website. There are more recent WDM drivers which have caused me nothing but trouble.

You also mention your motherboard has a VIA chipset, and this can be the source of a lot of headaches with Creative soundcards. I've found updating the VIA 4-in-1 drivers has definitely helped, so if you don't have them, check out:
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

The current release of the 4-in-1 drivers is version 4.40a (25 June 2002).
