Cannot find an answer

I have tried and tried to find an answer to this question but have not been able to get any help. I hope someone has a simple solution. How can you get each midi to have the same volume level? If I am using a midi file player(use cakewalk pro 8)and want to play my guitar with the background music from the midi, it is a pain to be playing and then the next song is so much lounder, it blows you away or it might be to low. I have changed volume levels but the velocity might be different for different midis. I am a beginner so my lack of knowledge might be laughable. Thanks for any help. Rock
