First of all, which version of Media Player are you running? If you haven't already, you should pick up the latest version, including all the patches and codecs for it (although I wouldn't recommend Media Player 8, which is still really buggy). If that still doesn't work-- and you're in no mood to reinstall Windows-- pick up WinAmp, WinGroove, or another such free multimedia player. Also worth considering is a browser upgrade to IE6, which has an integrated multimedia player built in.
