I had a QS-8 for about 2 months, and sold it for a yamaha S-80 which cost about $250 more.

SOme of the sounds were pretty nice on the QS-8, and they had a brightness that I liked, but becuase it lacks resonant filters, all the sounds were sort of lifeless -- you can get way more mileage out of the S-80's ROM.

The only issue I've had with the S-80 is that some of the incredible built-in sounds are partly incredible because of the great effects the keyboard has. In performance mode you can only use the effects of one of the patches, so oftentimes you can't use two of your favorite patches at the same time.

At first I didn't like the S-80's action nearly as much as on the QS-8, but I tried a QS-8 recently and now can report that I prefer the action on the S-80.
Both are fairly noisey.
