Home studio should do what you need. That's what I've been using. I hope to eventually upgrade to Pro Audio but for the time being it's sufficient. It allows you to sync to video, create mp3, etc. The only limitation is the 8 audio tracks. You can record more MIDI tracks than most people would ever need. Check the cakewalk page to see if you can download a demo, I remember downloading a demo version a while back, and it had full functionality except you couldn't save or print anything, but gives you a good feel for the software capability.
