Supposedly alesis 'improved' the general midi soundbank on all .1 synths. This may be interesting if you plan to play a lot of GM midi files (being new to keyboards this is a good way to start due to the enormous amounts of midi files available for free in the internet). I'm not too happy with my gm bank in my qs6 personally (granted it's over 4 years old now ;-) ...

Another point to think about is that the CD ROM that comes with the .1 will have newer versions (also better?) of some of the programs. Depending on what you intend to use the qs8 this may not make a difference.

Alesis web site has all this info. good luck ;-)

: We are very new to the keyboard world and are looking at buying an 88-keyu weighted keyboard. Is there a difference between the Alesis QS8 and QS8.1? We've sheard quite a few people talking about the QS8, but haven't been able to find any info about it on the Alesis website, so we didn't know if it's an older model or if people just drop the ".1" when they're talking about it. Thanks for your help.
