depends on the pa and where you need to go. the output on my qs7 is pretty low (i assume they all are) so any distance means a 1/4" guitar-like cable and potential noise/etc. though i have played in some situations where i went strait to the board...most boards can probably "pad" you to the right level or provide you a "line level" input. if there is a snake involved (don't mean the sound guy, but the clump of wires to carry the mic.s to the back of the room) or the board does not have a 1/4" line in, a di (or direct input box) is the way to go.
the box can either go between your qs and your amp or out of your amp if it supports it.
