here is something you could try:
Dump the mix you are using (choose the mix and dump all the temp buffers) into a sysex-file.
Include this sysex-file at the start of your midi file (I hope, cakewalk 8 is able to do this), so that it is played before anything else.
This will restore the complete state of your synth (excluding global) to the settings that you had at the time when you recorded that sysex-dump.
Additional benefit: If you use a USER mix and overwrite it afterwards, the sequence on the card will still 'remember' the correct mix setting.
