I see it like there is one effects unit in the keyboard. In program mode you get the effects setup designed for that voice and it sounds great. In the multitimbral mode you still only have the one effects unit to run through, so there is a compromise.
I've wondered about how to set which effects mix is used in multitimbral mode.
(not enough to read the manual though)
