The Alesis serial driver does not like to share ports.
1st - Remove the Alesis serial driver.
2nd - Uninstall whatever is on Com1.
3rd - Shut off computer and physically remove the device which was on Com1.
4th - Reboot computer and reinstall Alesis serial driver on Com1.
5th - reinstall whatever was on com1 to com2.
If all else fails, you can create a 2nd hardware configuration for the Alesis port.

: I've loaded the Alesis Serial Driver to my PC (Win 95) and can't assign the driver to Com 2 because it won't list any other com but com 1 in the drop down menu.
