I have a IBM Thinkpad laptop computer with a pcmcia card modem. As most of you know, the alesis serial driver does not co-exist with any other serial port users. To make a long story short, I waisted a lot of time trying to establish communications.
Well, today I found the most simple solution. Go to "system properties" and create another "hardware profile". Use the copy command to create it. Then on the new hardware profile, remove modem and all ports except com1. Now that you computer has multiple hardware profiles, windows will ask you on bootup which profile you will be using. When your using the synth, just select the new profile.
