find out if the notes you play find their way to the sequencer. Try to record on the same channel that's shown on the display in PROG mode and afterwards look at the recorded block on the sequencer if there are any 'events' (notes) recorded.
If this is true, recording works.
Now get any general midi sequence from the net, put your QS in MIX / GM mode (global menu!) and play it back. If you hear it then at least playback works.
Some hints:
-Your QS must be set to MIDI OUT, not 31.25kB or 38.x KB in the global menu. Check it!
-Your PC's midi driver must be properly configured to your interface card.
-The sequencer must be told explicitly to expect events from which interface - have you made any settings yet?
-The PC MIDI OUT connector must be plugged to the QS MIDI IN and vice versa, but you already did that..?
