I don't know what your doing messing with drivers, unless you were going to use the serial interface, in which case (I think) you can't use midi.
I've had my QS6 for about a month so I know where your coming from. I set up everything right in cakewalk( what sequencing software are you using?) but I plugged midi in to midi in and midi out to midi out. When I switched them it worked fine.
You talked about disabling midi in your control panel, if you do this, midi will not work.
You have to make sure your sequencer has a valid midi input and output port ( mine says midi in(330) and midi out(330))
I added the instument definition to cakewalk then you have all of the programs(voices) listed in your software and you can change them from the computer.
If you want the computer to play multiple tracks at once on the QS6 then it has to be in Mix mode.
I don't put my qs6 into my sound card unless I wanted to make an audio track of it. I put the qs6 and computer out to a seperate mixer/amp.
Good luck.
