You could start the internal sequencer by sending a 'Song select' and 'Play' command via MIDI, I guess. You'd have to find a device that sends these messages controlled by footswitch (I think my KROG 01RW does, but haven't tried).
By means of a normal footswitch connected to your synth, no (don't think so).
