: I have an original QS+, over 10 years old. Anyway, as stated, when I power it up, the display lights up, no characters or anything. No sound, no response to any button pushing.

: Reading posts here, my initial thought is "dead battery" but I'm not sure if the whole keyboard would be dead. Any thoughts or comments welcomed.

This happened to me on a QS7.1, and it was caused by metal prongs (located at the back of the keyboard assembly) shorting out on circuit boards above. Pressure from button pushing eventually forcing the prongs onto a live part of the circuit board. This is easy to see if you open it up and look. If this is the case, just bend the offending prongs down a bit, and insulate them with electric tape or something. Then re-initialize the unit. Good luck!
