Thanks for the info. However, I'm having trouble making this work.

I've constructed a cable, crossed the pins etc. Got the contrast and backlight working, but my synth (qs7) goes silent/hisses when the new display is connected. The display shows the default HD44780 all solid bars across the top line for not initializing. If I plug in the old dead display, everything is fine (execpt displaying characters)

Can you offer any troubleshooting advice. I'm assuming I have wiring troubles, but the cable is very straightforward?

Thanks!

: Here's how the cabling goes:

: Standard LCD Pins ---- QS8 Pins
: 1 Vcc (+) 1
: 2 Vdd (-) 2
: 3 Vo (snip) 4 (don't connect this wire in cable use trimpot)
: 4 RS 3
: 5 R/ 6
: 6 E 5
: 7 D0 8
: 8 D1 7
: 9 D2 10
: 10 D3 9
: 11 D4 12
: 12 D5 11
: 13 D6 14
: 14 D7 13
