: "The driver SC-8820 version 3.2 serial driver is compatible with our units. "

: and here is the address:

: Hope this helps you.

I will attest to the fact the fact that the free Edirol SC8820/8850 serial driver works with XP pro and QS8 (and it works just fine conveniently it also works with my SC-8850).

Standard MIDI also works with XP Pro and QS8.

HOWEVER, the Uniynth editor/librarian only partially works in Win XP and cause lots of errors and will not edit the QS8 (e.g. load mixes, etc. without hangs and errors)

There are other "free/shareware" editors out there - but I haven't tried them.

Since I also just bought a Roland XV-5080, and because with Win XP my out MidiQuest editor wouldn’t work with my really OLD Roland GR-50 guitar synth I broke done and bought Sound Quests MidiQuest XL - it works fine (however you could get by with just Midiquest 9. I do use Dxi, VST, and OPT for my Motif ES with Sonar 3 PE so the MidiQuest XL was better for me. And since I was a previous owner the upgrade was farily inexpensive. They do make something called "uniquest" - one-instrument versions. IF this is for education - you may be able to work out a deal with Sound Quest

Or like I said look around for dedicated fre/shareware Editor/Librarians.

I would check out http://www.squest.com for a good editor/librarian

Good Luck

: : This seems very weird to me. A big company like Alesis can't put together a simple Windows XP driver for their most popular synthesizers ever, the QS series! I am a music teacher at a college and we have 15 QS synths (8, 8.2 and 7s). Now, Since we upgraded our computers, we can't change banks or select patches via MIDI anymore. And Alesis just doesn't care... they got our money... now forget the support. So what do you think about this company... do they suck, or what?
