No need to install the alesis driver if you're going to use a soundcard midi interface. You only need the driver for the serial port. Go ahead and uninstall it. It's only going to generate conflicts. I'm assuming the error message is due to the fact that the serial port may not be enabled? Not sure. In any case, just unistall the driver.
Go to device manager in windows and make sure the midi port is working without conflicts. It's been years since I've had a soundcard, but check under Sound, video and game controllers, and in the control panel check Sounds and multimedia properties, and see devices.
