I, like yourself, have been at the wheel for quite a while. Started playing drums in the EARLY 60's, then quitar, and now, at 48, am attempting keyboard. But that's not enough, oh no.
I looked at the available digital multitrack recorders (which all seem to have massive learning curves, and repeat features already included in the sequencer program I have), and ended up getting a Tascam 424 cassette multi-'cause it's not too difficult to use. Between that and the sequencer program, I've got unbelievable tracks capability.
In my opinion (if it's at all required) KEEP IT SIMPLE. The personal audio studio market is just getting warmed-up, and a lot of changes are in the wind.
Now if I can just remember wher I put my socks.
