In submitting my post for this message, the midi Universal Device Inquiry and device reply messages in my post were enclosed by left and right arrows. In accepting the post, the arrows and enclosed data were stripped away.
The second paragraph of my post should read:
If I hook a serial cable up to the Nanosynth from my PC, set the switch to PC 38.4 and use the Alesis serial driver, the unit responds as expected to a Universal Device Inquiry "F0 7E 7F 06 01 F7" with "F0 7E 7F 06 02 00 00 0E 0E 00 07 00 xx xx xx xx F7". If I hook up midi cables to midi IN and OUT/THRU, set the switch to midi and use my MOTU midi interface, the Universal Device Inquiry "F0 7E 7F 06 01 F7" results in an echo of this message at the OUT/THRU port, i.e., THRU behavior.
