Connection via serial on Windows 2000?

Has anyone been able to hook up a QS using a serial cable on Windows 2000?

I've been trying all day, and can't get it working. I'm not sure if it's my cable (a mac modem cable to a gender changer to a db25-db9 adaptor), or my driver (a yamaha serial driver, which does show up as a midi source).

Any and all help appreciated. It seems it would be a killer setup (no latency) if I could get it to work.
