: First the easy question: I have no basis for comparison with Roland's Orch. cards, since I've never messed about with one. Yet.

: As for the Q-card, I don't think the audio demo really does it justice. Like anything, it's a mixed bag. Some stuff that's quite good, other stuff that's less than inspiring, and, obviously, the results you pull out of it will depend on time, effort, and skill.

: If you can get your hands on the May '99 issue of KEYBOARD magazine, they give it a review in which it ranks 8/10. That seems about right. A couple things they point out are that (a) the Programs seem to have been optimized to blend well in mixes, and (b) the multitimbral mixes seem to have been designed for use in one of 2 ways: some to be played full-on from the keyboard, and others work better when using a sequencer to control the individual parts.

: I'm happy with mine, have coaxed what I want out of it, and would definitely buy it again.

: : The classical Qcard does sound realistc?

: : I heard the brief demo, and didnt like the sounds much

: : In your opinion, it is realistic enough for professional recording?

: : same or better than roland cards?

:
: : : Oh, the Classical, no question. The Sanctuary has a few related programs, but it's not really designed to fill out that kind of a sound. Got some monster pipe organs, though. The two cards actually complement each other pretty well, and for sure they're cheap enough now to get both.

: : : : What Qcard is better in terms of real and quality orchestral sounds,

: : : : Sanctuary or Classical?

: : : : What do you think?

: : : : Thanks!

I'd like to chime in here with my two cents worth! First, The Classical Q-card is much better-I have both and the Sanctuary card isn't close to the Classical card in terms of the amount and quality of orchestral instruments. Like Jason said, Sanctuary is quite heavy in pipe organ samples with only a few other good sounds.Classical card has some nice strings with different bow techniques and some fairly decent winds and perc. Way better collection of useful samples. Now, about the Rolan cards, provided you have a JV,XP, or XV synth, the cards offer more sounds per card, but also cost quite a bit more. As for the quality, this is pretty much a subjective thing, but for me, the Roland samples just stomp on the Q-cards. They are smoother and of better quality to my ears, more musical, especially the strings and percussion.
