: Hi - question regarding percussion in mixes.
: I am using a QSR with a Roland A-70 keyboard controller.

: I need to assign a specific percussion sound (i.e. block, cymbal, snare, etc), or, for that matter, other specific sounds to a given note on a keyboard (i.e. C2, C#2, D2, F6, etc.). Aside from assigning additional midi patches with pertinent pitch adjustments to the mix, what is the best way to assigin specific sounds to specific keys?

To assign drum/perc. sounds to specific keys you must enter drum edit mode.Any sound can be assigned to any key.In normal program edit, a patch can consist of up to 4 samples. In drum mode each of the 4 voice slots allows you to assign up to 10 drum samples. So 40 individual samples are available. Normally one would assign 30 and use the remaining voice slot to fill the rest of the keyboard up with a preset kit.You can edit any of the preset kits and store them in user bank. However, if you are using GM mode you may not be able to acces your custom kit. Read more on editing drums in your manual, it's all there!
