Thanks everyone for your comments. It's amazing how much conflicting advice I've gotten. I've been on the phone with variious music store folks, some musician friends, etc. Some have said that you must have expensive bi-amped monitirs, others have said that you can do incredibly well with low-end, powered speakers. So obviously there's an enormoys amount of personal taste involved. It looks like I'll have to go to a store and listen to a bunch of speakers, understanding that they may have to be tweaked to conform to my home environment. It's interesting just to hear different opinions on the Alesis M1 Actives....some rave about them, others dismiss them entirely. I've heard the same conflicting reviews of the Event line. I've concluded that there is virtually no consensus......nevertheless, I find the issue of real interest.....and invite more comments on how people choose to amplify the Alesis.....what works for them. Again, I'm mainly interested in home listening.
