It depends if the downloaded audio tracks into your computer are midi (.mid) files or wave (.wav) files.
I know Cakewalk will let you record both midi and wave files, but only midi files will work if you want to use your computer to control the QS8 and not have it play the computer's sound card.
If these are midi files, then you need to set up the computer's software to play them to the midi output port on your computer and not to the computer's sound card. This can either be the joystick port on an IBM machine or the com port (serial port) if your using the Alesis serial driver with an IBM computer.
I'm not very familiar with the Mac, but I am 100% positive you would need midi files to control a QS8 with a Mac computer and not use wave (audio) files as well.
For one, wave files don't contain midi information. They are recordings of the actual audio waveform and don't contain note on, note off, velocity data, clock timing info, etc. like midi files do. I would suspect the files being downloaded from your adat machine into your computer are wave files and not midi files, correct?
Anytime you want to sync audio up with midi and have an audio device control the midi device, then you need to record midi time code or SMPTE time code information along with the audio information. If the audio recording doesn't have it, then you will have to add it into the audio recording manually. I imagine there are probably software programs out there that will let you do this, but I am not up-to-date on them.
