Another thing you might try is re-initializing your keyboard. By doing this, you'll reset all the defaults the keyboard has. The User Banks will not be affected.
To re-initialize, do this:
Turn on your QS-8 while holding the "0" and "3" buttons simultaneously. You will hear a nasty scratchy sound come from your synth... don't worry, it's normal.
If the keys still sound flat, then the good news is the former user didn't mess it up (more than likely), but the bad news is, that's the way the keyboard is.
I checked my QS8, and I have not noticed the "flatness" of notes in the upper register. I, too, am primarily a "piano" guy, so this is important to me.
