I'll defer to experts on this topic, but
a compressor's only real function is to cut
extremely high (loud) signals. So its prime
use is as a limiter on live recording (voice,
trumpet, etc.) where microphone distance
can vary. You shouldn't have any real
need for it with a synth line output to a mixer,
whether a digital or analog signal. Save your
pennies for more useful toys. - Jim
