MIDI recording problems, please help!!!

Hi, i'm kind of new to MIDI and i've always used my computer keyboard to record.
lately i bought a YAMAHA keyboard and an M-AUDIO MIDI input to it.
i was the happiest person but when i tried, at any program, to use it, it didn't record but 2 sounds out of 10 without any pitch or reason.
the sounds which were recorded stucked for an unlimited time.
does anyone have any clue what might to be the problem?
i've tried it in several computers and the problem is the same.
