MIDI Connections

Just purchased a Fostex VF08 and already have a Yamaha 540 and CPU woth Home Studio 2002. Anyone have advice on MIDI connections ? This is how I am thinking of connecting all devices:
KB HOST cable OUT to computer
VF08 MIDI OUT to Sound Card MIDI IN
Sound Card MIDI OUT to VF08 MIDI IN
or should I use a 2X2 MIDI box and give all MIDI devices their own channel ?
