I also own a Roland xp-10 and I'm using Cakewalk Homestudio. I have no problems recording midi. You have to set your MIDI-IN and MIDI-OUT in Cakewalk. If you have done this it should work just fine.
I presume you wired your MIDI-IN to the MIDI-OUT of the XP-10 and the MIDI-OUT to the MIDI-IN of your XP-10.
If al this is correct it should work fine.
