mega midi problem

some one help i got this cheap MIDISMART thing and i have got cubasis vst and this piano suite thing, the only thing is i cannot get my midi to work. it goes into the joystick port but that as far as i can get (yes i can switch the computer on(!)) is it my sound card that needs upgrading (software?? or Hardware??)its doing my head in! soundmax digital integrated audio is the driver or soundcard please help by sending me an EMAIL
