Problem: same patch on all midi channels

have a Kawai K5m module, and I'm having trouble controlling it through a USB MIDI cable, using Voyetra's Record Producer MIDI Edition. The problem is that all different midi channels play the same patch on my K5. I can change the patch from a channel, but that changes all the other channels, so what I get is all tracks being piano, or bass, or trumpet. Terrible. Any ideas on how to configure the K5 to accept different patches on different midi channels?
