Technics KN1500 and MIDI

When I load a GM MIDI file into my KN1500 and convert to Technics format, the volume settings all change. I've plotted the changes and they are not linear! Can anyone advise me on how to override this so that the volumes remain as I set them?
For info. when saving a sequencer file to disc, remember to select GM to save to a SMF file(0) or it will save as 3 Technic format files. You can't save as a SMF (1).
