midi keyboard question

Ok, I am sort of new to this. I have a Concertmate Keyboard 1500 that I have running through my computer com port. I used Recording session plus for win95/3.1. When I play on the keyboard, it records the music and plays back through the keyboard with the software.
Now, here is the tricky part. I want to be able to playback and save these as wave files and play them on my computer speakers - but everytime I do, it switches the different sound effects back to a plain old piano.
I am guessing that it needs the synth signatures to play it, but I don't want to record through my keyboard!! What to do??
