Do you need to be inspired or just instructed in how to get the best sound out of your MIDI? :-) I guess the first thing I'd need to know is what does "crap" mean to you? I think hip-hop sounds like crap even when professionally produced but that is a matter of taste, not talent.
Does the music sound "tinny" or cheap? Is the timing all off? What are you using (software/hardware) to create and generate the sounds? We can start from there and go on.
