: where is this "cache" in windows XP? I can't locate x.mid by simply doing ctrl-F...

I've just noticed that on my installation of Internet Explorer under Windows XP,

x.mid won't find it, but x*.mid should -- I think the filename will tend to be x[1].mid, etc. The path to the IE cache on your PC should be reported if you go to Tools / Internet Options, look at the General tab and click on settings. There should be an entry for "Temporary Internet files folder".

That said, I've just discovered that on my installation of IE6, if I click on a link on midiworld, I get a dialogue box offering to save the file to disk or download it (with the filename x.mid). I *think* the way to enable this is to open a folder - any folder, My Documents will do - then click on Tools / Folder Options. On the "file types" tab, look down the list for the extension "MID". Click on advanced and there's a checkbox for "Confirm open after download". Click OK, close and restart Internet Explorer if it's running at the time, and then hopefully you'll be prompted to ask whether you want to download the file or open it in your media player.

Hope that made some kind of sense.
