using alesis sr-16 with dm-5, help?

hi i recently bought the alesis DM-5 and some triggers for my drum kit. Ive been through the dm5's bank and frankly all of the cymbals sound like crap. i was told by a salesman that i would be able to trigger sounds from my sr-16 if i wanted. anyone know how to do this(assigning the trigger to grab from my sr-16 instead of the dm-5)? i cant seem to find where they explain it in the manual. or is there a way to get an upgrade for the internal bank on the dm-5 to get more sounds?
