No midi with the Ac'97.. Please help...

Ok...i have an ac97 and a midi keyboard...i've turned on the "midi i/o" in the bios so i get the MPU-401 and assigned it to irq 10, 330F...Still no midi...I have noticed that there is no slider for midi volume in the record volume control window...the volume slider that controls the midi volume...is in the playback section and it's named SW synth...what shall i do??...
Is there a fast way to look if you've got midi i windows without starting sequencers and stuff.......
