sync problems w/ Sonar/Roland VM

I am using a Roland VM series digital mixer interfaced through a MAudio/Roland RPC-1 card. In Sonar, I get a distortion in the high end when I use my Roland board as the MTC/smpte master. Everything syncs up and play fine, however high frequencies such as cymbals are really distorted. I hve tried various sampling and frame rates with the exact same results. Right now I am running at 48 kHz/ 24 bit. With Sonar as the master, my board will not sync either. As far as I know, this is because Sonar will only transmit Midi sync, and not MTC. I am looking for a cheap and relatively easy solution to this problem.
