Breath Controller

I recently acquired the Kurzweil Message Mate - ribbon controller, breath, etc,.
I am able to effect nearly every function - but cannot seem to effect breath controller changes 02. I can affect essentially every other function (i.e. volume 07) through my Yamaha breath controller. I am using a roland a-70 controller with alesis qsr sound module - connected to close the loop. Any thoughts - perhaps some clarification on how the breath controller should affect sound.
