sending midi via QS7 "midi thru" port to PC

OK...I've got a Roland VS1680 I would like to be the MASTER SYNC in controlling Sonar on a PC while routing the MIDI signal THROUGH my QS7 via the PC MIDI Cable - is this possible??
I've tried several ways and can't get it to work. I don't have an external MIDI device, so I thought since the QS7 is already hooked up the computer via the PC Cable...why not connect a MIDI cable from my digital workstation to the keyboard and the keyboard could act as a MIDI THRU to the PC.
Appreciate any advice on this.
