MIDI connections

I've switched keyboards in my PC music set up, and have been having problems. My new synth only sends "pitch bend" or "program change" in place of any other information, regardless of the key pressed. The connection must be good in order to receive any signal, but the messages are decidedly UNmusical. I would appreciate any help. Thanks,
