Problem with RX21 drum machine going into Cakewalk 8

I'm new to midi and I have a midi to joystick port cable going from my Yamaha RX21 drum machine (pretty old) to my PC, with the intent on using the midi drum sounds in Cakewalk because the sound of the RX21 is very cheesy. I just want the RX21 to trigger the sounds on the PC, but it's not working. I've used the help files in Cakewalk and searched the net but I have been unable to figure this out. Do I need seperate hardware or am I maybe missing something in setting up Cakewalk? Any help is appreciated.
